The outliner, unlike in other minmap programs, is highly functional and similar to Workflowy or Dynalist. Xmind's outline is simply a bulleted list in nested form.
Transno also lets you color and format words in outliner and mindmap mode. I only use mindmaps for brainstorming so I don't have any input on using them for learning or storing information. Transno's mindmap mode exposes a few features that you must pay to get in Xmind. But Xmind has more available features than Transno.
You might also Google the following: obsidian excalidraw mindmap. That means you can use your mouse or stylus to draw mindmaps in Excalidraw and relate information in ways you can't in a regular mindmap program. That is not unlike drawing them in Excalidraw. However, it takes more time to hand-draw a map than it does for a dedicated mindmap program to help automate the process.
